Changes to In-person Sessions

Do I need to book to attend Bookbug?

Yes, booking is required. Booking for the following week opens on Thursday at 1pm, (or the next time the library is open following this time). Only one session can be booked each week. Block booking is not permitted.

 

How many people can attend Bookbug?

The number of adults who can attend Bookbug is determined by the space available to facilitate 1m social distancing between adults within a library. Children are not included in this number.

 

How will social distancing be maintained?

Adults must remain on their chair/cushion at a 1m distance from other adults during Bookbug. Children are free to move around the library.

 

Do I have to wear a mask?

Yes, you must wear a mask (unless medically exempt) when entering and exiting the library. Masks do not need to be worn during Bookbug whilst on your chair/cushion. If leaving this space to visit the toilet, bring your child closer to you from another part of the library or leave a Bookbug session a mask must be worn.

 

Is singing permitted?

Yes, you can sing during a Bookbug session but singing should be aimed towards your child and at a conversational volume.

 

Will sessions be the same as before?

Yes, Bookbug will feature songs, rhymes and stories as before. However, no resource will be shared so lycra/parachutes will not be used and children will unable to touch puppets used by session leaders. Sessions will be slightly shorter at around 20 – 25 minutes to facilitate social distancing amongst adults when exiting.

 

I’m a new parent who has not attended Bookbug before, are there sessions for babies only?

Yes, some libraries offer baby only sessions. An age range is provided along with the day, time and location of each session.

 

If I am unable to attend a booked session, do I have to cancel?

Yes, please contact the library to cancel your place to give someone else a chance to attend.

 

Will Bookbug stickers be available?

No, not at this time.

 

Will the Bookbug library challenge return?

Yes, you can collect a Bookbug library challenge card from a library and collect 6 stamps to be awarded a special Bookbug certificate.

 

Is Bookbug free?

Yes, there is no cost to attend.

 

Can I breastfeed during Bookbug?

Yes, please feel free to breastfeed at anytime whilst in the library.
