Would you like a qualification in basic family history research? The SQA Family History Course may be just what you are looking for. It will introduce you to using the Internet for family history research by encouraging you to use the Ancestry website which is free to use in CultureNL Libraries. You will also be introduced to other important internet sources including Scotland’s People, Family Search.org and special websites such as Scottish Mining, The National Library of Scotland and The National Archives’ among others.
The course, run at our Wishaw Library LogintoLearn Centre, can be undertaken by people who are complete beginners or who have already some experience in family history research.
The course requires candidates to build a family tree back to four generations and to indentify sources which begin to build a picture of the life lived by the individuals in the family tree. The course is especially interested in the social and geographic situations of individuals and participants in course will produce a final project on their chosen family. Other assignments will look at local and national organisations that can help provide information in the field of family history.
