National Poetry Day

National Poetry Day

Enjoy a celebration of poetry with CultureNL Libraries

Thursday 1 October

Every year, poetry is celebrated on National Poetry Day. This year, despite the changes to the normal routine, is no different. We have a few fantastic online opportunities for you to enjoy poetry to it’s fullest.

Online Reading

We have teamed up with award-winning Scottish poet Niall Campbell to produce a video reading of his fantastic poem ‘A Letter Always Arrives at its Destination’. The video will be released on all of our social media platforms on National Poetry at 1pm. We hope you enjoy it and please share it with family and friends.

Poetry Podcast

On Thursday 24 September, we release an episode of our For the Love of Books podcast which also features an interview with Niall Campbell. If you don’t catch it before National Poetry Day itself, what better day to give it a listen than the day of national celebration of poetry? Look out for an episode called Visions of Poetry.

Poetry on BorrowBox

Both of Niall Campbell’s poetry collections Moontide and Noctuary are available to borrow or reserve on BorrowBox as is a nice selection of other poetry collections. Search the app for poetry to find out what’s available. This includes a local collection put together by us in 2018 to celebrate National Poetry Day that year.

Schools Challenge

We’re also challenging North Lanarkshire schools to get involved in National Poetry Day by tagging us on social media on the day with poems submitted by school kids. It can be videos, pictures of written poetry, book spine poetry or whatever you and your children create. We’d love to see it all. We, of course, will share it further too.
