National Poetry Day

Celebrate National Poetry Day with us on Thursday 4 October.

If you are a lover of all things poetry, we are sure you are very excited about National Poetry Day. We have a great selection of events arranged for the day and we ran a poetry competition which will allow the winners to have their poems published on our BorrowBox eBook service.

Wednesday 3 October

Pre-National Poetry Day Event – Cumbernauld’s Studio Arts Forum

Condorrat Library
1.30pm – 3pm – FREE event

The Poacher’s Pot Group will be reading poems by known poets and some not-so-well known poets in celebration of National Poetry Day. This event is presented by members of Cumbernauld’s Studio
Arts Forum. Come along for an interesting and entertaining event.

Thursday 4 October

Poetry Workshop with Amanda McLellan

Coatbridge Library
2pm – FREE event

Join local writer Amanda McLellan for a poetry workshop at Coatbridge Library. Amanda will introduce you to poetry using the works of poets based locally and further afield. Using the National Poetry Day theme of ‘Change’ you will also learn how to use and write poetry as a form of therapy.  Come along and discover your inner poet!

Open Mic Poetry

Airdrie Library
2pm – FREE event

Join us at Airdrie Library for an open mic poetry event giving anyone the chance to take the mic and recite a poem that speaks to you best.

As an open mic event, there is no need to book a place, but you can call Airdrie Library for more information on 01236 758070.

 

Book Shelf Poetry

Cumbernauld Library | Kilsyth Library | Moodiesburn Library
drop-in – FREE event

Visit the libraries mentioned above to take part in some book shelf poetry. Grab some books, arrange the spines to resemble a poem, and get the staff to take a photo of it. Your poem will be entered into a competition to win a £20 book token. There is both an adult and children’s prize.

This is a drop-in event, there is no need to book a place. Contact one of the libraries above for more information.

 

National Poetry Day Competition

The competition was open to residents of North Lanarkshire and ran from Wednesday 1 August, 9am and closed on Friday 31 August, 5pm. Full terms and conditions available here.

This was your chance to have your own work published on the CultureNL Libraries BorrowBox service for the rest of North Lanarkshire to appreciate and enjoy. 12 entries will be chosen by a judging panel to be published on BorrowBox on Thursday 4 October and made available for all library members to download and enjoy.
