We think libraries deserve to be celebrated, and that is what Libraries Week is all about.

To celebrate the importance of libraries, join us at some of the fantastic events scheduled by CultureNL Libraries throughout October 8th and 13th to see some of the wonderful work that’s happening in a local setting.

Library Love Letter

Author AH Proctor has donated copies of her books to libraries across Scotland for Libraries Week. She has kindly donated copies to five of our libraries. We really think you should pick up a copy, some of them might have something special inside for a lucky borrower….

Cine Minis

Condorrat Library
10.30am – 11.15am – £2 per session

Come to the launch of Cine Minis – film fun for pre-schoolers with parents and carers. Cine Minis introduce children ages 2 – 5 to storytelling through short films and animation. Each session will be followed by a craft or play activity. Places are limited so booking is essential. Call Condorrat Library on 01236 736615 to book. This programme of Cine Minis will run for 5 weeks – Monday 8 October until Monday 5 November.

 

Book Lover’s Film Club

Join us at the launch of a film club – for book lovers! If you enjoy a good story on the big screen too, come and join us for our new monthly club. To kick off we are screening the classic ‘To Kill as Mockingbird’. Suitable for 18+.

Digi Champions Digital Advice Session

Cumbernauld Library

Come and meet the young people from Cumbernauld Learning Hub – they are offering advice and information for children and adults on online safety, cyberbullying and being ‘share aware’. Drop-in anytime throughout the event.

 

Browse and Blether

Airdrie Library

In the first session of the latest New Tricks events series, remember the past with our Browse and Blether session at Airdrie Library. Enjoy the chance to chat with others about memories from the area and see and share old photographs. Event includes afternoon tea. Tickets must be purchased in advance at Airdrie Library.

 

The Night Sky in Review

Airdrie Library
7pm – FREE event

Chair of the local astronomy club Airdrie Astronomical Association, Mrs Isabel Morrison is an avid reader and for this special occasion she will be giving a “taste” of a variety of books on the subjects of space and space travel.

Among the books she will review are two that were made into successful films:

‘Last Man on the Moon’, is the autobiography of Gene Cernan, Commander of Apollo 17, the last flight to the moon.

And ‘Hidden Figures’ is the story of the women who were the first “computers”, without whom men could not have made the journey to the moon.

At the end of Isabel’s presentation the observatory will be open for visitors with the two observatory curators on hand to answer any questions

 

Wednesday 10 October

Bibliotherapy

Come along and enjoy a bibliotherapy session, listen to a selection of poems, short stories and novel extracts read aloud for your enjoyment. This is a great way to boost your mood. Refreshments will be available.

 

VIRGIL – Visual Impaired Readers Group in Libraries
