Chapelhall Primary
Chapelhall Primary School is a non-denominational co-educational school serving the community of Chapelhall. The present roll is 311 from Primary 1 – Primary 7.
The school offers many extra curricular activities to our pupils, which include netball, football, gardening, K-Nex, cycling and choir.
The staff in the school are very grateful for the support provided by parents. Many offer to help out on a regular basis during classroom activities and others assist during educational visits and at social functions.
There is an active Parent Council and Parent Teacher Association. Current activities which the PTA organise include discos for the pupils, MacAdventure Assault Course,
Fruit/Healthy Eating initiatives, Primary 7 graduation, social evenings for adults and an annual Christmas Fayre.
There are also strong links within the local community and we join St. Aloysius staff and pupils for an annual Christmas Carol Concert. Many of the local businesses support fundraising events in the school throughout the year and at other times we raise money for charities through a variety of activities and collections. The school accommodation is made available for community use.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 years, so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least 4 years of secondary education. Primary 7 pupils from Chapelhall Primary School participate in transitional programmes with Caldervale High School, the school which they normally transfer to.

St Aloysius Primary
St Aloysius Primary School is a Roman Catholic co-educational primary school with Honeywell Nursery Class attached. It shares a joint campus with Chapelhall Primary School and is situated in the heart of the village adjacent to Chapelhall Library. The village lies two and a half miles beyond Airdrie on the A73 and close to the M8. The school serves children from Chapelhall and Salsburgh. Our designated High School is St Margaret’s, Airdrie.
The school is built over three levels, the top level being for the sole use of staff, incorporating a staff resource room. The middle level houses 13 class bases in a semi-open plan layout, the dining hall, library, two tutorial rooms and a noisy /quiet room. The ground floor has the main administration office, Head Teacher’s office, office community room, gym/assembly halls and audio visual room. Some of our facilities are shared with Chapelhall Primary such as the audio visual room, library and dinner hall. There is a shared playground with an Astroturf pitch. The car park for staff is opposite the main entrance.
The roll for 2009-2010 is 332. The capacity of the school is 370. The school is staffed by 18 teachers which includes the head teacher, two depute heads, acting principal teacher and two probationers. There are 13 classes in the primary school and a nursery class which has 70/70 capacity. The nursery class is staffed by one nursery teacher, one senior early years worker and five early years workers. Support personnel includes two janitors, five clerical staff, two special needs assistants, four classroom assistants, catering and cleaning staff.
St Aloysius Primary has a school choir, football, netball, athletics and writing clubs. The netball and football teams are coached by teachers and parents, whilst the other clubs are taken by school staff.
Every opportunity is taken to involve the school in the local community. The Community Police, Fire Service, lollipop ladies, local library and our senior citizens are invited into school to speak to the children and sometimes to be entertained by the children. A fund raising week is held during Lent to help children be aware of the needs of others less fortunate than themselves.
The school also takes part in the yearly quiz run by the district library service. We are very grateful for the considerable support received from parents, friends and staff for the training and practical help given.
The school has an active Parent Council and Parent’s Association who both meet monthly. Parent helpers are welcomed in the school. Good communication with the parents and wider community of Chapelhall and Salsburgh is viewed as a priority. There are strong links with the local community. Pupils with special needs are supported by by an inter-disciplinary team led by the Learning Support Coordinator. Pastoral care of pupils and strong emphasis on personal and social development forms an important part of the school ethos.
