Scotland’s noisiest museum continues to get even noisier with the second season of “Music in the Museum”, produced by North Lanarkshire Council’s arts development team. From “pop-up opera” to indie rock bands, there’s a different musical event to experience each month in the unique surroundings of North Lanarkshire’s museums!

… and we mean it! We want everyone to be able to access these events. ALL of our events have been set up with a limited number of free tickets to be made available to anyone who faces a financial barrier with a North Lanarkshire postcode, no questions asked.

Get ready for an unforgettable family afternoon out as The Tenement Jazz Band brings their toe-tapping, fun-filled show to Summerlee Museum, Scotland’s noisiest museum! This special event is designed especially for kids (and grown-ups who want to dance along too!). Step back in time and discover the irresistible sounds of New Orleans jazz with one of Scotland’s best-loved traditional jazz bands. The Tenement Jazz Band’s lively tunes, silly stories, and irresistible rhythms will have little feet tapping, big smiles beaming, and hands clapping along.

Between the Notes is a gentle invitation to pause, listen, experience and reflect. This special event marks the launch of a new artist-designed public piano for North Lanarkshire. Inspired by the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival’s 2025 theme of “Comfort and Disturb”, this live performance explores how sound and silence, harmony and discord, can echo our own inner states of balance and imbalance. Expect an evocative encounter where music becomes a space for connection, reflection and wellbeing with classical dance, demonstrating the symbiotic relationship the two art forms share.
