Welcome to the Schools Mobile Library, a service for primary, and special needs schools in North Lanarkshire.
Our service:
- provides an opportunity to extend the range of books in the classroom
- is effective in supporting reading for pleasure
- gives children, who otherwise may not visit a library, the opportunity to choose books for themselves
We will supply a schedule of visits when you start the service and regularly thereafter. Due to demand, we may need to withdraw the service from schools who do not make regular use of it.
Our mobile libraries provide:
- stories and information books
- picture story books for all ages
- books for reluctant readers
- dual-language books
- DVDs and CDs
- story sacks
Before the visit it would be helpful if you could:
- plan a timetable with all staff – it is much easier to choose books if the mobile is not crowded and each class visits separately
- phone us in advance if you have any special requests for your visit and staff will do their best to carry the stock you would like
- remind children to bring their tickets and items to be returned
- inform parents/guardians that their children will have the opportunity to use the mobile library
During the visit:
- please ask for help if you need it – the Driver/Assistant knows the stock and will help you and the children to choose books they will enjoy
After the visit it would be helpful if you could encourage children to:
- keep their own tickets – their tickets can also be used at any of the 19 libraries in North Lanarkshire. Lost tickets can be replaced free of charge and children who forget their tickets will still be allowed to borrow items
- return or renew borrowed items by the due date (stamped on the label). Items may be returned or renewed at any North Lanarkshire library or mobile library, by phone or via our web site. Parents/guardians of the children are responsible for items borrowed and will receive overdue notifications if the items are late for return
For health & safety reasons:
- mobile library visits will always be scheduled at times when children are in class i.e. not during break times
- our driver/assistants may need assistance when reversing on school premises. Therefore, if required, a janitor or staff member will need to be made available to help
- please ensure that children are accompanied on to the mobile by a responsible adult – usually ten to twelve children is acceptable at one time
Please use the Contact Us section if you have any questions.
