Glengowan Primary and Nursery
Glengowan Primary School is a non-denominational, co-educational school in the village of Caldercruix. It caters for children from three years of age in the nursery class, through primary one to seven in the school. The school offers a range of after school activities throughout the school year. This programme of activities changes each term. A typical sample of these clubs includes: arts and crafts, netball, cross country and dance class.
Towards the end of May/June, children who have registered to attend primary one at the beginning of the new session in August, are invited to spend part of the day with the primary one teacher. This gives the children the opportunity to meet their teacher and visit the class base. The parents are invited to attend an induction meeting at this time, when they can discuss various aspects of school life. Questions are welcome at this meeting and parents can discuss any concerns they may have about their child’s first year at school.
The school strives to liaise closely with the local community including links with the Community Police and the Community Project. In addition, the school and nursery also liaise closely with health professionals and other external agencies. We are actively involved in Enterprise Education, Health Promotion initiatives and the Eco Schools’ Award Programme.
It is important to us that good home and school links are fostered. Parents’ meetings are held in terms 1 and 3, when parents are invited to discuss their child’s progress with the class teacher. Parents also receive a written interim report in the second term and a final written report in the forth term of each session. Parents are invited to attend class assemblies, performances and events as they occur in the school calendar. Regular newsletters keep parents informed of the life of the school.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Glengowan primary normally transfer to Caldervale High School. The primary 7 pupils have the opportunity to visit the school during their final year at primary and there is liaison organised between Caldervale and Glengowan Primary.
