Summerlee Museum will provide the setting for industry professionals to recognise and celebrate Scottish contributions to early engine developments.
The Third International Early Engines Conference (IEEC3) will be hosted at Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life in Coatbridge from 22 to 24 March 2024.
Summerlee Museum is Scotland’s flagship museum of industry and amongst its many attractions is the UK’s only surviving rotative Newcomen Engine, from Farme Colliery outside Glasgow.
As part of the event, a series of excursions will also take place to local sites, while the main convention will focus on the Caprington Colliery Engine and its reconstruction at National Museums Scotland, as well as some lesser-known early engines in Scotland. It will also explore the Carron Ironworks’ contribution to early engines and the history of Farme Colliery and its Newcomen Engines.
