In 2014, a selection of poems was written by S4 pupils from Calderhead High School that was published into a booklet called “Reflections on War”. The booklets were sold in the school and the money raised was donated to veterans’ charities Poppyscotland and Erskine Care Home.
Each poem is different to the other, and some include the use of Scots Language. We are pleased to publish these poems to a wider audience as a mark of remembrance of the First World War centenary commemorations.
Working closely with the Arts Development team, the photography classes which meet at Summerlee Museum were given the poems as inspiration to take an image which reflected their thoughts and feelings of what the poem meant. The images on the postcards were created by a range of participants from the adult and the children’s classes.
