Libraries Big Day Out

Join CultureNL Libraries as they break out and celebrate the Libraries Big Day Out at Summerlee Museum.

CultureNL Libraries have decided to take their services out of the traditional settings and visit Summerlee Museum for a special Libraries Big Day Out event.

Join us at the museum as we take over for the day with loads of special events planned for all the family. Have a look below and see what catches your eye, don’t miss out on this great day of fun with the library service.

Libraries Big Day Out Events

Tickets for all events are available at Coatbridge Library. Places can be booked in person at Coatbridge Library, on the phone at 01236 856444 or by email at As payment cannot be taken over the phone or via email, these tickets are reserved for 5 working days and must be collected and paid for before the end of this period.  Tickets can also be purchased in all of our libraries and collected either in Coatbridge Library before the event date or at the event on the date of the event. Friday 24 August

Murder in the Museum

Summerlee Museum Exhibition Hall
7pm – Tickets £5 and refreshments will be provided – half the proceed will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

If you think you are a budding Miss Marple or just enjoy a good mystery come along to the Murder in the Museum mystery evening. Teams of 5 can take part or come solo and teams will be created.


Saturday 25 August


Summerlee Picnic Hut
10.30am – 11am – FREE event

A library classic. Stories, songs and rhymes for the under 3’s. Families welcome.


Booster Cushion Theatre

Summerlee Reigart Suite
11.30am – 12.30pm – Tickets £3

Little Red Riding Hood with a twist. This funny show encourages audience participation especially as Cinderella’s backing band.

A perfect event for families and children aged 3 – 7 years old.


Museum Detectives

Summerlee Conference Room
12.30pm – 1.30pm – Tickets £2

Did you know museums are jam-packed with mysteries? Every object has a hidden past.

Join author Mike Nicholson, author of the popular Museum Mystery Squad series for a fun family event. Find out how he uses museums to create mysteries and have a go at becoming storywriters and detectives all at the same time. *Warning this event will involve some very bad jokes*.

For budding detectives aged 8 – 12 years old.


A Chat with Mason Cross

Scottish crime author Mason Cross will be talking about his latest novel Presumed Dead featuring character Carter Blake.

Storyteller on the Tram

2pm – 3pm – FREE event

Join storyteller Gerry Durkin as he spins a tall tale on the tram.

Suitable for all the family to enjoy.

Join Scottish crime author Craig Robertson as he discusses his latest novel in the Narey and Winter series – The Photographer.

As well the fantastic list of events featured above, you can also expect a library book sale, face painting, digital library services assistance such as eBook help and a photobooth. Also on site will be 2 mobile libraries where you can join the library and even take out your first loan. There will also be a chance to find out more about Macmillan in Lanarkshire and the services they provide.
