The Joe McKay Community Centre was built in 1992. Events which take place in the centre include dance classes, boxing, dog training, labour party meetings, spiritualists, SNP meetings and the Lanarkshire Association for Mental Health.
This centre is particularly suitable for regular bookings and classes looking for access times during the day, Monday to Friday.
Any type of well-organised social event or community-based activity would be made welcome by Joe McKay Community Centre and staff.
Facilities
Joe McKay Community Centre has one main hall available for let with a small capacity intake of 50 persons for a dinner dance and 60 for a disco event. This hall is adaptable and can be used for most types of hires.
In addition to the main hall there is a small committee room available that can be used for small meetings or gatherings and activities, which can cater for a maximum of 10 persons.
Kitchen facilities are suitable for re-heating food only and may be used for the purpose of hot buffets or heating through ready prepared food. There is a small domestic fridge available if required.
Transport
Joe McKay Community Centre is accessible by public transport and a bus stop can be found approximately 100 yards from the centre. There are designated parking facilities at the front of the centre.
Disabled access
This facility is well suited to persons requiring wheelchair access. There are disabled access points to the building, and all facilities are on the ground level. There are also specially adapted toilet facilities in the centre.
