What’s your First World War story?

>North Lanarkshire’s War

North Lanarkshire’s War is a Heritage Lottery Funded project which has been running since 2014. The project is about ordinary people and the extraordinary events they helped to shape during the conflict.as time has passed and there are no living veterans still with us, we are looking for relatives to keep their memories alive by sharing their story. The stories don’t have to be “exciting”, just who they were and what they did. Every aspect of their lives is important.

How to get involved:

If you have medals, uniforms, photographs, certificates, newspaper clippings, or stories about a relative’s involvement, please get in touch with us. If you don’t have any physical objects but know details then share them too.

What we will do with your artefacts:

We don’t want to keep your artefacts – we will simply make digital copies for use in exhibitions, on the website and other related projects to help tell North Lanarkshire’s story of the conflict.

Email ww1@culturenl.co.uk  to tell us what you have to share. Remember to include your name and a contact number.

Stories and anecdotes:

If you have a family story to tell you could write it down and email it to us or, if you would prefer, we can record your story instead. Contact the Assistant Curator on 01236 856375 if you would like to record your story. You can also click here to send us information online.

It’s not just about the military:

We aren’t just looking for stories from the armed forces, but also about, industry shops, transport, school and home life too.
