Which libraries are opening and when?
Monday 26 April: Airdrie Library, Chryston Library, Coatbridge Library, Cumbernauld Library, Motherwell Library and Wishaw Library
Tuesday 27 April: Bellshill Cultural Centre Library and Kilsyth Library
Thursday 29 April: Shotts Library

What are the library opening hours?
Our libraries will continue to operate reduced opening days and times, however, we’ve introduced late nights and weekends where possible. Find out more about Library Open Times.
Will all parts of the libraries be open?
Only the ground floor of Airdrie Library will be open at this time. The Discovery Room at Airdrie remains closed.
Mandatory work is currently underway at Motherwell Library on the roof and stonework. Only the ground floor will be open during the works which will take several months. We apologise for any disruption during this time.
Only the ground floor of Kilsyth Library will be open at this time.
Do I have to wear a mask?
Wearing a face mask in a library is now mandatory across Scotland, therefore you will be required to wear one to access the library unless you are exempt on medical grounds.
Will you provide customers with hand sanitising facilities?
Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance. All visitors must sanitise their hands on entry and exit.
Will staff be wearing PPE?
Staff will be wearing masks and gloves appropriate to the tasks they are carrying out.
Will there be screens at counters/service desks?
Yes, Perspex screens will be fitted to each of our main counters.
Is there a maximum number of people allowed in at any one time?
Yes. This will vary from library to library. Information on the maximum number of people allowed in at any one time will be clearly displayed.
Can a family group come into the library?
Yes, as long as they maintain social distancing from other customers.
Can I browse for books in the library?
Yes, but we would encourage you to browse more with your eyes in order to avoid coming into physical contact with too many items.
Can I still requests book?
At this time the request service has been suspended.
Is there a limit to the time I can spend in the library?
There are no chairs or tables available to enable social distancing, and with limited capacity, we would ask that customers consider others and perhaps limit their time when browsing for books.
Will you be able to use PCs when you reopen?
Yes, but access will be limited to 50 minutes per session at Airdrie Library, Coatbridge Library, Cumbernauld Library and Motherwell Library. 30 minute sessions will be available at Bellshill Cultural Centre and Kilsyth Library. We advise you phone ahead to book a session as PC availability is limited. To book, please call the library you wish to use:

Can you help me to use a PC?
We cannot offer help while the customer is sitting at the PCs. If help is required, the customer must step a minimum of 2 metres away from the PC and 2 metres away from any other user while the member of staff is working there.
Do I have to pay overdue charges?
All items on loan before our libraries reopened will be exempt from overdue charges.
I have overdue loans. Can I return these to any library?
You can return them to any library that has reopened. Alternatively, you can renew them online.
Why aren’t you reopening all libraries from the same date?
We are continuing to open our libraries on a phased basis to ensure they are as safe as possible for our customers and staff.
Will a full timetable of activities be available when libraries reopen?
No, due to COVID restrictions on social gatherings no group activities will take place in our libraries for the time being. We’ll update our social channels when this changes.
What cleaning procedures will you have in place when libraries reopen?
All touch points will be cleaned regularly. Main counters will be wiped down regularly and computers and computer stations will be cleaned after every booking.
How will the computers be sanitised?
They will be cleaned using wipes and spray between each use.
How will the books be sanitised?
All books returned to the library will be quarantined for 72 hours before being placed back into general stock or reissued.
Will public toilet facilities be available in libraries?
Our toilets will remain closed.
Will vending facilities be available?
Vending facilities will not be available.
I’m a library member but can’t remember my online password. How do I get it reset?
If you have forgotten your password, you can contact us via our website to get it reset.
How do I access digital library resources?
Our digital resources are available 24/7. You can access digital library resources such as eBooks, eAudio and eMagazines.
