Our summer exhibition is A Game of Two Halves, a celebration of the centenary of Cliftonhill Football Stadium. A programme of family football movies will accompany the exhibition. Each showing comes with an old-school ‘B’ presentation of classic football footage or an episode of animated football favourite, The Hurricanes.

1 & 29 July – Early Man (PG) -The makers of Wallace and Gromit bring us the story of the first ever football match.

8 July & 5 August – Escape to Victory (PG) – Classic war and football mash-up, starring some of the greatest players of all time, alongside action legend Steve McQueen.

15 July – Believe (PG) – Brian Cox plays Lanarkshire legend Matt Busby as he comes out of retirement to coach a talented boy.

22 July – The Unbeatables (PG) – Harry Potter star Rupert Grint voices characters in this animated tale of football rivalry.

Planetarium with thinkscience

Step inside the thinkscience inflatable planetarium for a guided tour of the sky above you, exploring the science, and the stories, behind some of the stars in the night sky.

Casting

Lanarkshire is famous for its iron with products from the ‘Iron Burgh’ exported around the world during the 19th Century. Visit the famous Summerlee ironworks, and recreate the iron casting techniques of the Industrial Revolution. Make a ‘cast-iron’ copy of an object of your choice, or even your own hand.

 

Toys Through Time

Get hands on with some 20th Century toys and see how play has changed in the last 100 years. From Victorian street toys to early video games, dolls, puzzles and board games. Visit out make and take table to make your own toys with our tried-and-tested instructions.
